Eldica: Best Kept Secret

R&B singer David Peaston has passed away at the age of 54. No cause has been given at this time. Those who follow music in depth will remember how he shot to prominence quickly in the 1980's.

The former school teacher from St. Louis, appeared on the televised version of "Showtime At The Apollo" on several of their Amateur Showdowns, winning each time with his now famous, soul stirring version of the Billie Holiday classic, "God Bless The Child". He won the final that year and went on to record his debut album "Introducing David Peaston" which contained that selection and would yield two singles "Two Wrongs Don't Make It Right" and "Can I". In 1990, he won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist. He would record a second album in 1991 "Mixed Emotions".
